It didn't take long for dragging long hoses around the garden to get burdensome, not to mention the plants that were damaged.

I have two type of irrigation: drip tape and mainline tubes with emitters.

I prefer the drip tape with row crops like lettuce, kale, carrots, beets and radishes, plants that can grow close to eat other.

Drip tape has small openings ever so often, in the case of the type I use, every 8 inches

Tubes with emitters allow variable spacing for plants that grow further apart, such as summer and winter squash, peppers and tomatoes.

Each emitter allows a given amount of water, those I use are rated at 1 gallon per hour.

Requires:

• A water source (I use a garden hose that I hook up when I need to irrigate)
• Pressure regulator (7psi for drip tape and 30 psi for emitters, to limit the pressure in the lines)
• Filter (to keep crud from clogging up the tape or emitters)
• Timer (so I can accurately measure the amount of water dripped during each session)
