All the melons and squash have been harvested and a winter cover drop of crimson clover and annual rye grass is taking hold in three fourths of the garden. In a couple of weeks I will harvest the last of the tomatoes and peppers and compost the vines. The largest of the carving pumpkins are still green but there are enough orange ones to give to grandkids. The bountiful crop of pie pumpkins will continue to ripen until after Halloween (they are for food, not decor!). Hopefully we’ll gain some interest in making pumpkin pies, bread and scones with clients at the food banks.
