Remineralization

Steve Solomon and Erica Reinheimer in their book The Intelligent Gardeneer are promoting remineralization of garden soil. Basically their approach assumes that there is an optimal level of each of about a dozen minerals and that by soil testing and applying their formulas I can greatly improve my soil and grow nutrient-dense vegetables in it. I have a number of reservations about the practicality of their approach, but I'm going to give it my best shot in 2015. Since I began gardening seriously I have emphasized increasing soil fertility even though I didn't know much about this - accepting the persistent myth that fertility equals % organic matter. Time for this dog to learn new tricks!

Application

Solomon insists on application of the fertilizer and then tilling it in down to six inches. (So much for low till gardening!) See Low-till revisited.
