Wine varieties

Vitis vinifera, the common grape vine, is a species of Vitis, native to the Mediterranean region, Central Europe, and southwestern Asia, from Morocco and Portugal north to southern Germany and east to northern Iran. Vinafera vines tend to grow better in warm climates.

There are hundreds of varieties of vinafera, grapes used primarily to make wine.

There is good information about:European grape varieties from Cornell University.

Disclaimer

I focus on table grapes that grow well in the Pacific Northwest, so I haven't included much about vinafera, so this wiki doesn't devote a lot of space to this type of grape.
