Here’s the setting for beginning gardening for the year. The cover crop mix (cereal rye, annual rye, triticale, vetch and Austrian feld peas) did well despite a late planting and has done well in the mild temperatures this winter. I’ve pruned the grape vines and taken soil samples for the vegetable garden. I will attempt to root a couple of grapevine cuttings from my own vines as well as two varieties I purchased from bunchgrapes.com. The soil is saturated and will take at least six weeks to dry out with a normal amount of rain. It was a lovely day and I really enjoyed being out.
